Venetian Glass

Made with handmade venetian glass from the Island of Murano, an island close to Venice in the Venato district, using traditional methods which date back 600 years. Glass rods are fused onto copper rod 'mandrels' adding leaves of precious gold or silver foil, then adding further layers of coloured glass into a round glass bead which is then formed into the final shape. The final item is then cooled slowly in an annealing oven to relieve internal stresses to prevent cracks when cold. The copper rod is then clipped close to the glass then dissolved in acid. Glass making was moved from Venice to Murano in the thirteenth century to remove the risk of fire.

Swarovski Crystal

Founded at the end of the 18th century by Daniel Swarovski, the Austrian manufacturer is synonymous with the finest cut crystal ornaments, chandeliers, jewellery and components. In 1956 in conjunction with Christian Dior, Swarovski developed the Aurora Borealis (AB) coating which gives the crystal reflection shimmering every colour of the rainbow.

Thai Silver

The king of Thailand has encouraged the local hill tribes of the mountainous regions of Northern Thailand to return to their traditional crafts in place of opium poppy cultivation. One of these tribes, known as the the Karen tribe have re-developed their traditional silversmith skills, manufacturing a unique style of high silver content items. 'Fine' silver with over 99.9% pure silver is used since it is easy to work with the primitive hand tools used.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver has a silver content of 92.5% alloyed with copper and nickel which increases it's straight and helps resist tarnishing. Often abbreviated as STS. Components weighing over ¼ Troy ounce (7.78 grammes) are hallmarked. Smaller components need not be marked but many are stamped '925'.

GoldFilled

Base Metal with a 24 karat gold layer mechanically applied. The gold content is 1/20th the total weight of the component. The gold is much thicker than a gold plated item.
